Excellent. James Cain novel. Veda is a great "bad seed" child. Joan Crawford is terrific, as are all the supporting characters, particularly Jack Carson.
Excellent start . . . orphaned girl with a knack for chess, taught by janitor, harsh orphanage despite its courtly look.
